Our Commitment to Sustainability

The nature of equine veterinary means a lot of the work we do in on the road.

At Cliffe Equine Hospital we're committed to minimising the impact of our daily routine work on the environment in the following ways:

Our Fleet:

Now 50% electric or hybrid.

Our Water Purifier:

We use a lot of purified water in the hospital for sterilising our instruments and equipment. Previously this is something we bought from a supplier, however on reflection realised this was not only expensive way of doing it but also having a negative impact on the environment through unnecessary packaging and delivery. We have now invested in having our own purifier installed, which works off the mains. A more efficient, economical and sustainable set up!

Our Wildflower Meadow:

As you may have seen, we’ve recently upgraded our facilities at the hospital, including an extension to our outdoor arena and in doing so have created a ‘dead space’ behind it. Instead of converting this into a paddock, we’ve committed to re-wilding that space, with native English wildflowers and grass, hopefully creating the perfect home for insects and other wildlife. We can’t wait to show you a photo in full bloom!

Our Zone Visit Scheme:

Still the most economical way to carry out ambulatory practice, we divide the area we cover into 4 and for routine work, organise the day for optimum time efficiency and fuel conservation based on the visits we have in the diary. The visit charge is greatly reduced and we pass that saving on to you at only £15 per visit, or free if there’s three or more horses at the same yard.

Recycling:

We are dedicated to recycling all applicable matter and reducing our waste. In light of this, we’ve also moved to paper drug dispensing bags.

We even have an in-house Sustainability Officer, our very own Egbert Willems.
