New Influenza Vaccine Rules

A brief reminder to any of our clients with racehorses of the updated influenza vaccine timings from the BHA.

These came into force from 1st January 2022, with a view to any corrections being made within the year, so that all racing horses are compliant from 1st January 2023. 

Please note, this affects not only racehorses, but any horse attended a racecourse for whatever reason (for example, a Pony Club member attending an event at a racecourse). 

• If your horse already has an appropriate primary course, they just require booster vaccines every 6 months; this means they must have had a booster vaccine within the period of 1st July - 31st December 2021 in order to race from 1st January 2023.
• If they have restarted the course within the last 12 months, as long as the first vaccine was before 31st December 2021, they can either continue with the previous primary course intervals, or use the updated ones.
• If they have had their first vaccine since 1st January 2022, they must be compliant with the updated timings.
